#Nº 05 | OUR ARTESANS
The essence of a Castañer espadrille lies in its timelessness, but above all in its craftsmanship. The manufacture of our espadrilles has hardly changed over 90 years, working in the same way since 1927. Of course we have evolved in the production process, innovated in materials and bet on new technology to bring the excellence of our designs to your feet, but we always keep a history of authenticity in the creation of each espadrille.
The manufacturing process of our icons begins with the skeins of jute to make the soles of all the models, with the elaboration of skeins of this 100% natural material and its subsequent dyeing. From there we carry out the technique of braiding Castañer, unique and handmade, with braiding machines invented in our atelier almost 100 years ago. We continue with the warping, which will give shape to the espadrille, for which we work the sole on a table that serves as a mold for the jute braid.
The time comes to sew the sole, with a unique machine created by Tomás Sierra, mechanic and co-founder of the brand. This machine sews the jute braid just as Tomás devised it, and today it is still one of the treasures of our atelier.
